What is Bacteriostatic Water?
Bacteriostatic water is USP-grade water for injection to which a small amount of benzyl alcohol has been added purely as a preservative. It is not a peptide or an active research compound in itself; its role is purely as a solvent and reconstitution vehicle for freeze-dried materials.
How it is understood to work
Benzyl alcohol at 0.9% inhibits the growth of bacteria that might otherwise be introduced during repeated withdrawals from a shared vial. This lets a single vial be entered multiple times over a study period without the sterile water itself becoming a contamination route, unlike plain sterile water for injection, which is single-use only.
Research status
As a diluent, bacteriostatic water does not have its own research literature; its function is supportive, allowing lyophilized peptides to be brought into solution at a known concentration for downstream laboratory work. Its pH, osmolarity, and preservative concentration follow long-established pharmacopeial standards for injectable diluents.

Lab testing
There is no public lab report for this listing yet. We can ask the brand for the batch COA before you order. Many buyers also split an independent HPLC test with others who bought the same batch.

Bought through escrow: the brand is only paid after you confirm delivery. If the parcel never arrives, or an independent test shows the wrong compound or a significant under-fill, open a claim before releasing payment.

Handling & storage
Keep vials at controlled room temperature away from light; because it contains benzyl alcohol, it is not appropriate for reconstituting compounds where preservative-free water is specified, and once a vial is opened, treat it as a multi-use stock for the remainder of a study rather than indefinitely.
Questions
Can bacteriostatic water be used for any peptide?
It is suitable for most lyophilized research peptides, but some protocols call for preservative-free sterile water instead, so it is worth checking a given compound’s own reconstitution notes before assuming bacteriostatic water is the correct diluent.
Why does it contain benzyl alcohol instead of being plain sterile water?
The benzyl alcohol is a bacteriostatic preservative, not an active ingredient; it is what allows a single multi-dose vial to be accessed repeatedly during a study instead of being discarded after one use.
