What is Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin and the largest and most structurally complex of the B vitamins, built around a central cobalt atom.

Mechanism of Action

B12 is a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, enzymes essential for DNA synthesis, methylation and fatty-acid and amino-acid metabolism.

Research Applications

Vitamin B12 is studied in research on energy metabolism, haematology, neurological function and methylation pathways.
