What is SS-31?
SS-31 is a synthetic Szeto-Schiller tetrapeptide that crosses cell membranes and concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
Mechanism of Action
SS-31 binds cardiolipin, a phospholipid essential to the organisation of the electron transport chain. This stabilises cristae structure, improves ATP production and reduces reactive oxygen species generated by damaged mitochondria.
Research Applications
SS-31 is studied in research on mitochondrial myopathy, heart failure, ischaemia–reperfusion injury, kidney disease and age-related mitochondrial decline.
Storage & Handling
Supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder for maximum stability. Store unopened vials at -20°C, protected from light. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe appropriate to your study protocol.
