What is Follistatin?

Follistatin is an autocrine glycoprotein expressed in almost all tissues. FST-344 is the precursor isoform that is processed into the circulating FST-315 form.

Mechanism of Action

Follistatin binds and neutralises members of the TGF-β superfamily, including myostatin and activin—negative regulators of muscle growth—thereby permitting muscle hypertrophy in study models.

Research Applications

Follistatin is studied in research on muscle growth, muscle-wasting conditions and reproductive biology.

Storage & Handling

Supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder for maximum stability. Store unopened vials at -20°C, protected from light. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe appropriate to your study protocol.
