What is 5-Amino-1MQ?

5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium is a membrane-permeable small molecule that inhibits the enzyme nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), which is highly expressed in adipose tissue.

Mechanism of Action

Inhibiting NNMT raises intracellular NAD+ and S-adenosylmethionine, which is associated with increased cellular energy expenditure and reduced fat-cell size and lipogenesis in study models.

Research Applications

5-Amino-1MQ is studied in research on obesity, metabolism and muscle stem-cell function in ageing.
