What is Livagen?
Livagen is one of the short peptide bioregulators developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg. Its sequence, Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala, was modeled on peptides isolated from liver tissue, and it is grouped with the hepatic bioregulators in that program.
How it is understood to work
The group has reported that Livagen can decondense heterochromatin in lymphocytes from elderly donors, reactivating genes that are silenced with age. The proposed mechanism is direct peptide-DNA or peptide-histone interaction, which remains a hypothesis outside that research group.
Research status
Research consists of cell-culture work on chromatin structure and animal studies of liver function and aging markers. There are no controlled human trials, and the literature comes almost entirely from one research network.

Questions
Is Livagen the same as a liver extract?
No. Early bioregulators were tissue extracts; Livagen is a defined synthetic tetrapeptide designed to reproduce part of that activity with a known sequence.
What makes Livagen different from Vesugen?
Vesugen is the tripeptide Lys-Glu-Asp linked to vascular tissue; Livagen adds an alanine (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala) and is associated with the liver. That small change in sequence is the basis for their different tissue associations in the literature.
