What is Prostamax?

Prostamax is one of the short peptide bioregulators developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg. Its sequence, Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro, was designed as the prostate-associated member of the family, following earlier work with prostate tissue extracts.

How it is understood to work

The group has reported that Prostamax can loosen condensed heterochromatin in cells from older donors, a change associated with reactivation of silenced genes. Whether this translates into a tissue-specific effect in the prostate has not been shown independently.

Research status

Evidence is limited to cell-culture and animal research, largely from the originating network. There are no controlled clinical studies, and findings should be regarded as exploratory.
