What is Snap-8?

Snap-8 extends the sequence used in the widely known hexapeptide Argireline, acetyl hexapeptide-3, by two additional residues, and it is designed to mimic the N-terminal region of the SNAP-25 protein involved in neurotransmitter release. It belongs to the cosmetic-peptide category rather than the hormone or growth-factor categories of many other research peptides.

How it is understood to work

Snap-8 is thought to compete with native SNAP-25 for a position in the SNARE complex, the protein assembly required for acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction. By partially displacing SNAP-25, it is reported in study models to reduce the strength of muscle contraction in the small facial muscles responsible for expression lines.
