What is KPV?
KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) corresponds to residues 11-13 of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, the smallest fragment reported to retain meaningful biological activity from the parent peptide. Because it lacks the sequence responsible for melanocortin receptor-driven pigmentation, researchers use it to isolate alpha-MSH’s anti-inflammatory effects from its pigment-related actions.
How it is understood to work
KPV is studied for its ability to enter cells via the PepT1 peptide transporter, which is highly expressed in intestinal and skin tissue, and to inhibit NF-kB signaling once inside, reducing production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Some in vitro work also describes direct antimicrobial activity against certain bacterial strains.
Research status
The tripeptide has been examined mainly in cell culture and rodent models of colitis, inflammatory bowel conditions, dermatitis and wound healing; it has not been evaluated in registered human clinical trials, and its transporter-dependent uptake means results can vary meaningfully between tissue types used in different study models.

Lab testing
HK Peptide published a Janoshik #121855 report for this compound. Test: Purity & Content (HPLC). Result: 99.23% purity · 12.88 mg. Tested Mar 16, 2026. The vial tested was a different strength than this listing, so treat it as evidence for the compound and ask for the batch COA for this exact strength. Handling & storage
Supplied as a lyophilized powder; store unopened vials at -20C protected from light, and once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water keep refrigerated at 2-8C for use within the study’s defined timeframe.
Concentration check: adding 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to one 5 mg vial gives 2.5 mg/ml. The Research Lab calculator in your dashboard works this out for any volume.
Questions
How does KPV differ from full-length alpha-MSH?
KPV retains only the three C-terminal residues of alpha-MSH and lacks the N-terminal sequence responsible for melanocortin receptor binding and pigmentation, so research models use it to study anti-inflammatory activity separately from pigment-related signaling.
What should a COA confirm for KPV?
Sequence identity (Lys-Pro-Val), molecular weight near 342 g/mol, and HPLC purity of 99% or higher, ideally from an independent lab given how short and easily miscategorized tripeptides can be on lower-resolution testing.
How much KPV is in this kit?
10 vials of 5 mg each, so 50 mg in total. The lab testing section above shows what the brand’s tested vial actually contained.
