What is Epitalon?

Epitalon, also spelled Epithalon, was developed from work on epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of the pineal gland studied in Russian gerontology research programs. As a short, defined-sequence tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), it has become one of the more widely referenced bioregulator peptides in aging-related laboratory work.

How it is understood to work

Epitalon is investigated for its reported ability to activate telomerase and support telomere length maintenance in cultured cells, alongside proposed effects on pineal melatonin synthesis and circadian gene expression. Antioxidant activity and broader modulation of gene expression patterns have also been described in the literature.

Research status

The peptide has been studied across cell culture, animal aging and lifespan models, and small clinical investigations conducted mostly in Russia, examining telomere biology, sleep-wake regulation and oxidative stress markers. It is not an approved therapeutic in the United States, and much of the published literature comes from a limited number of research groups, so independent replication remains an open question.
