What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin reproduces the first 29 amino acids of human GHRH, the shortest segment of the native 44-amino-acid hormone reported to retain full receptor-binding activity. Its relatively short, unmodified structure gives it a much shorter circulating half-life than engineered long-acting GHRH analogues such as CJC-1295 with DAC.

How it is understood to work

Sermorelin binds GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells, prompting the synthesis and pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone, which subsequently drives hepatic IGF-1 production. Because it stimulates the body’s own GH release rather than supplying GH directly, its activity remains subject to the normal somatostatin feedback loop that regulates the GH axis.

Research status

Sermorelin was previously marketed as an approved pharmaceutical for pediatric growth hormone deficiency evaluation before being discontinued commercially, giving it an established human pharmacology record; in current research settings it continues to be studied for the GH-IGF-1 axis, age-related decline in GH secretion, body composition and sleep architecture.
