What is Pancragen?

Pancragen is one of the short peptide bioregulators developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg, with the sequence Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp. It is the pancreatic member of the family and was designed with reference to peptides from pancreatic tissue.

How it is understood to work

Reported work suggests it influences expression of transcription factors involved in pancreatic cell differentiation, such as PDX1, in cultured cells. As with the rest of the family, the proposed mechanism is peptide interaction with chromatin, which is not yet independently established.

Research status

Studies are preclinical, mostly cell cultures and aging animal models, and the literature is small and concentrated in one research network. It has not been tested in controlled human trials.

Is Pancragen related to GLP-1 compounds?

No. GLP-1 agonists such as semaglutide act on a defined receptor; Pancragen is a four-residue bioregulator with a proposed gene-expression mechanism and a far smaller evidence base.

What does the sequence tell a buyer?

Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp contains tryptophan, which absorbs UV strongly, so a clean single HPLC peak and a matching mass are good identity checks on a COA.
