What is DSIP?

DSIP was identified in 1977 from the venous blood of rabbits induced into slow-wave sleep, giving the peptide its name even though its physiological role has since proven broader than sleep alone. It is a short, well-defined nonapeptide rather than a peptide mixture.

How it is understood to work

DSIP is thought to modulate delta-wave sleep architecture and to interact with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, including corticotropin and luteinizing hormone release, and has shown antioxidant and stress-buffering activity in laboratory models.
