What is IGF-1 DES?

IGF-1 DES is identical to native IGF-1 except that it lacks the first three N-terminal residues (glycine, proline, glutamate), leaving a 67-amino-acid peptide. This small truncation occurs naturally in some tissues and was subsequently characterized and produced synthetically for research use.

How it is understood to work

Removing those three residues sharply reduces the peptide’s binding to IGF-binding proteins, the carrier proteins that normally sequester and regulate circulating IGF-1. With less buffering by binding proteins, IGF-1 DES shows substantially greater potency at the IGF-1 receptor in vitro, paired with a much shorter half-life that favors a brief, local effect rather than sustained systemic exposure.

Research status

IGF-1 DES is used in research on localized muscle growth, satellite-cell activation, and tissue-repair signaling, largely in cell-culture and animal-model systems investigating IGF-1 receptor biology.
